Happy World Social Media Day 2022!
It’s interesting to note that every 30th of June each year, the world celebrates the impact of social media in the society.
Recall it was started by the popular website, Mashable as a way of recognizing the impact that social media has had on communications around the world.
Social media remains a platform to bring people together to celebrate, provide access to cheap, quick, convenient and ready to use technology for communication with friends, family and associates. It has also become a veritable platform to promote and conduct businesses.
All over the world, social media have become a powerful tool for mass mobilisation, promotion of political agenda and manifestoes, feedback mechanism for public officers, avenue to interact with subjects, and to promote good governance.
My concern stems from the negative deployment of social media platforms to share blackmails, falsehood, fake news and malicious posts.
Today, I join the league of social media users to mark this day by making this post.
