Nigeria Bans foreign models in ads
From October, all models and voiceover artists appearing in all commercial advertisements produced in Nigeria will have to be pulled from local talent, Nigeria’s advertising regulator has announced. The move effectively bans all foreign models in the advertising space, in the hopes it will boost Nigerian talent. According to the country’s advertising association, at least half of the models appearing in adverts in Nigeria 20 years ago were foreign, and “all the voiceovers were British accents”. In the past, companies had to pay a tax of about $240 for using foreign talent. The Nigerian advertising industry was reportedly valued at roughly $450m in 2021, the Economic Times reports
