When someone assumes a position of leadership, we are quick to put them on a pedestal and project super-human expectations on them forgetting they are ordinary people like you and me. It has often been said that the best of men are men at best.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is imperfect and prone to mistakes like everyone of us but what surprises me the most are hypocritical comments lashing out at the governor for his ‘mistakes’ in office. As if the critics don’t make mistakes too. Politicians are capable of making mistakes, experiencing emotions, and facing challenges just like anyone else but the critical thing to note is one’s ability to make amends where necessary. I daresay Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu is the most responsive governor in Nigeria today. He easily connects with everyone and exudes genuine warmth which are hallmarks of a compassionate leader.

During the EndSars protests, Sanwo-Olu identified with the protesters and even took their demands to President Buhari in demonstration of his empathy. The Spare Parts Market that got burnt in Apapa and generated controversy over allegations of targeted attacks against the Igbos is been reconstructed. The governor even donated 100 million naira to the traders. That’s the kind of person I will vote for come Saturday; a caring, compassionate and dedicated public official whose humanity shines through in all situations.

Anyone who keeps hyping Sanwo-Olu’s ‘mistakes’ in office has arrogated to themselves attributes that NO human being has. Bros, nobody holy pass. When considering a candidate for an elected position, it is important to look at their track record, their policies and plans for the future, their leadership abilities, and how they have handled similar situations in the past. It is important to choose leaders who have the necessary skills and knowledge to make informed decisions that benefit the greater good and this includes having an understanding of complex issues, the ability to work collaboratively with others, and a commitment to ethical and transparent governance.
